E - To follow or to lead

out together
So the pup has slept for some time. When he wakes up I know one thing for sure: he has to relieve himself immediately. So I am just ahead of that. I take him out and by walking in a firm pace, pup will follow me. After he has relieved himself, we will take our stroll. Relaxed for the pup we walk with me in the lead. Every now and then I assure him we are a team by cuddle him in my hands. He loves to hide underneath me and that gives me a good opportunity to stroke him gently in a sit position. And on we go.
Never, never is my pup in the lead. Of course - after a few days or weeks - he knows our route and races ahead. The moment my pup is ahead, I move backwards and greet my pup when he comes racing into me. A second we cuddle and on we go.

Never and never do I yell or call my pup in a high pitched voice. Leaders do not beg. I need no voice. We quietly keep our contact. My stinking feet never leave him too far and are always pleasant to return to. He may even find my hands to hug.
In a few more weeks I may occasionally clap my hands to attract his attention, but that will do. If I play our little game of sharing a pleasant contact and never live a separate life when on the move.

Our round is just so long and enjoyable, that it is great fun for both. After that pup may eat and do as he pleases in the kennel.
